A letter form Cisco Networking Academy. About the update of Packet Tracer.

In preparation for the launch of Packet Tracer version 5.2, we are looking for instructors who will help us test this new version. We have added several new features and protocols, especially in the areas of security and QoS.

We are asking instructors who would like to participate in this beta test to create and submit a test case. A test case is a framework that is used by our automated testing software to validate Packet Tracer functions. We run more than 3000 test cases against every release of Packet Tracer.

The process used to create a test case is the same as the process used for creating hands-on labs and instructor answer sheets: planning, writing step by step instructions, capturing output from the devices, and creating the instructor’s guide. The only requirement is that you need to use three of the commands and options on the new IOS command sheet.

After we train instructors for the beta test, we will focus more on feature testing, usability testing, multiuser testing, and Activity Wizard testing. We will schedule training sessions on new 5.2 features in early March and will release the beta software for testing later that month.

We look forward to working with you on this phase of Packet Tracer development and we appreciate any assistance you can provide. Please send your completed test cases and a note about which three commands you used, along with your full name and the name of your academy to PT5@cisco.com. Please use “PT beta” in the email subject line. After we receive your test case, we will follow up with you on training times and dates.

If you have any questions or need some guidance or suggestions on building test cases, please refer to the Packet Tracer 5.2 beta testing discussion in the Academy Connection Packet Tracer support forum.

Thanks for your help!
